Crop Scout / Agronomy Assistant
Job details
Full job description
Black Walnut Growers is growing and adding a Crop Scout / Agronomy Assistant to our Cordele operation.
About Black Walnut Growers
Black Walnut Growers is a family-owned Georgia agriculture and produce operations business based in Cordele. Founded in 2018, we run 2 locations in the Georgia Piedmont and employ a tight team that values doing the work well over scale.
About the role
You'll walk fields and tell growers what's actually happening in them. Day to day you'll scout crops for weeds, insects, and disease, assess staging and stand counts, pull soil and tissue samples, and record observations with field mapping apps. You'll report findings to the agronomist, flag thresholds that justify action, and help with trial plots, equipment calibration, and grain or forage sampling through the season.
What you will bring
You bring agronomy training or farm experience and the discipline to scout thoroughly when it's hot, buggy, and tempting to drive past. You identify common regional weeds and pests, take clear notes, and enjoy working outdoors independently. A valid driver's licence is required.
Apply today and we will be in touch. Eligibility for US work authorisation is required at offer stage.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in agronomy, agriculture, or a related field (or equivalent farm experience)
- Ability to identify common weeds, insects, and crop diseases
- Valid driver's licence and comfort working outdoors in all conditions
- Eligibility to work in Canada
Benefits
- Equipment-specific training paid by the operation
- Health insurance after 90-day probation
- 401(k) match up to 4 percent
- Year-round salary with overtime during peak weeks
